A Darkness Forged In Fire...

This is a shout-out to remind everyone that my friend and fellow writer, chris_r_evans's first novel debuts tomorrow. It's a terrific fantasy read, one that kept me turning pages and not because Chris is a friend, but because he *is* a storyteller and the story is that enjoyable.

my state of the union ...

... or maybe just a catch up post to ring in the death of the first month of a new year. Er, that sounds morbid, or depressing or ... something. Especially when you're old and years go all too fast enough as is. Sigh.

It's been a while since I have posted. Typical me. I may try to do one of these at the end of each month, but please don't hold me to it, I am such a rebel :-)

Writing

Twilight now has another completed chapter. Why it took me all month I haven't a clue, chapters don't normally take that long. I can so do better than that (proveitproveit, my muse sayeth). The novel itself is just shy of 30K, and I did find with that chapter that I am still working out details. Still no reason in my mind why the writing shouldn't go much faster, however.

The huge stack of papers that is Hunter's Moon sits on my desk and collects dust. I am still overwhelmed just by looking at the stack. For my first major revision/renovation/rewrite of a novel, I sure know how to write one that's simple (not).

EastWest Herbology Course

After initially being totally overwhelmed with the amount of work and complexity of the subject, I finally reminded myself that, like writing a novel, you take bites at a time over a long period of time (this hasn't translated to HM yet, unfortunately). The introduction is done, I've finished reading the first lesson, working on the homework (which isn't sent in this lesson) and am into the second lesson.

Healthy eating, exercise

I let the holidays mess up my routine. After several good months of racking up the walking miles - 50 to 70 miles a month - I really dropped off during the last couple of months of December and January - 30 and 20 miles respectively. Argh. I also let myself indulge in a lot of the wrong things in the food department. I began changing that over the last couple of weeks. I do miss the walks outside. Cold temps I can handle, but rain keeps me inside and because of that I was having a hard time switching back to using the treadmill. When you live in a wet state, however, you've no choice, so I think I've finally resigned myself back to the treadmill. The food is, for the most part, back on track too. Gaining a couple of pounds after having just worked hard to lose them ... gives good incentive.

So my state of the union ... and you thought it'd be interesting, fooled ya!

Birthday Greetings!

Happy Birthday, chris_r_evans May you have a spectacular day and an even better year this coming year than the last, which was mighty awesome in itself! :)

Interesting...

Summer has finally struck!

We now have true blue skies ... as opposed to those wimpy blah white ones. And along with that mid-upper 80 degree heat. Summer is finally here!

...which means I'll probably be crying and moaning for cooler weather soon. My typical M.O. :-)

So, an update:

Writing

Twilight toddles along. I'm still working on the plot and background, and sneaking in a scene here and there. A new revelation yelled howdy the other day, so I took to pondering it. Bit of a surprise, it was, but I like surprises. We'll see if it sticks.

Reading

Research List:

Shooter, The Autobiography of The Top-Ranked Marine Sniper
Touching the Rock, An Experience of Blindness
The Psychic Battlefield
Blood Brothers, Among the Soldiers of Ward 57
Living With a Below-Knee Amputation

Fiction:

I read by whim, so my personal TBR pile is the whole house and local library and bookstores. I grab whatever fiction is calling me at the moment. My current read is the next book by Craig Johnson, Death Without Company.

Grand thought for the day

There's only so much time in life and there's only so many novels one can write within that time; not writing mean less time left to write those novels you want to write. So why waste time not writing when it's what you want to do, and why waste time on a story you have no heart for. Just sayin'

...mostly to myself.
